Who Is Julian?

My Background

Hi, this is Julian and I'd like to introduce myself.


I've been a personal trainer in Los Angeles for the greater part of 20+ years, certified in 1994 through the American Council on Exercise (A.C.E., 1994) and the National Academy of Sports Medicine (N.A.S.M., 1997).  


I was born and raised on Oahu, a graduate of Punahou school, moved to Los Angeles, California and earned my bachelor degree from Loyola Marymount University.  I started working for the Sports Club Company at their Howard Hughes Spectrum Club and moved over to Crunch Fitness in West Hollywood during its inception. I moved on from Crunch Fitness about 15 years ago and currently train at a couple different fitness studios and gyms serving the Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Melrose, Hancock Park, Mid-Wilshire, and surrounding areas.


Knowledge and Experience

Apparently, I've been reminded by a client of mine that I've been doing this for a long time.  I actually have 20,000 hours of training people!...(oh my)

Training Philosophy

You need to enjoy life!  That's it.

Actually it's more than this.  Life is about balance. It's a balance of you, your work, your relationships, your family, your friends, and your recreation.  

If you want to be able to enjoy those vices of yours, let's find a balance and that starts with being fit.

  •  In order to perform at a higher level, you need to be fit.  Being "healthy" just isn't enough.  Fitness and health are not synonymous.   How many "healthy" people do you know who couldn't run a mile or lift up half their body weight if their life depended on it?  Consequently, "unhealthy" people with all the vices, poor eating habits, alcohol every day, smoke every day, chronic physical ailments, but who actually exercise with resistance and cardiovascular equipment are actually more fit than those who are "healthy" and don't exercise.

  • Working here in Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and surrounding areas, this is one of the major reasons for people wanting to start working out.  

    Competition is fierce in film, television and modeling.  One of the ways to gain an edge on the competition is by being fit, looking healthy, strong, muscular, confident.  I have worked with actors in film and television for their roles in front of the camera.

  • Are you an athlete, weekend warrior, or just love to get outdoors and have a great time?  Wouldn't it be great to excel at what you love?  

    I grew up playing junior golf, throwing a football (60 yards), playing racquetball, martial arts (Shotokan karate), canoe paddling, volleyball, deepsea fishing, freediving, and cold water scuba diving.

    Functional training that will translate to better performance is the emphasis here.

  • I've worked with teenagers as young as 16 years of age while at the Howard Hughes Spectrum Club and worked with High School student athletes.  

    Whether a child is in youth sports or not, youth fitness is about developing coordination, strength, confidence and a positive attitude.

    *please note, I am not a childsitting service, rideshare service, nor a personal assistant.  Parental signature is required for children under the age of 18.*

  • Certified with Annette Lang in 1998.  Are you pregnant, planning, or recently had a baby?  Certain exercises may be considered unsafe during and immediately after pregnancy.  Low back pain may be a constant problem.  We want to address the functional needs of a woman at this time and minimize risk during pregnancy.  

    *a physician's clearance is mandatory*

  • Maybe you're retired, you've got kids, you've got grandkids, or maybe a whole entire village has your surname and you want to be able to keep up with them.

    You can't put a price on your health, but the hospitals, pharmacy, and healthcare providers sure can.

    As the body and mind start to decline with age, we need to slow down this decline.  Increasing and maintaining muscle and function is vitally important. Functional fitness, task oriented movements, balance, coordination, flexibility and cognitive stimulation are incorporated into these workouts.
